Comparison of FRP/GRP Processing
1.Hand lay-up Process
Low investment in equipment, less limiting factors of product shape, suitable for small batch production. Conditions of its production is to need molds and to master the technical essentials. However, the quality of FRP/GRP product, made by this process is not high and stable enough , and rather difficult to meet the performance requirements for certain products.
2.Injection Molding Process
Injection molding is a mean of manual lamination via injection molding machine. The process has high efficiency, low cost, and gradually replaces the traditional hand lay-up process. The FRP/GRP products made by this process has good integrity,no joint , no strict limits of geometric shape basically ,no complex molding process, material formulation to maintain a certain degree of accuracy. The inadequacies of process is that quality of product depends on the workers' skills . In addition, the spray molding could cause larger pollution than other processes.
3.Filament Winding Process
Filament winding process is to made continuous fiber enwinded around mold core according the design ,which was impregnated resin and then broken away from mold core after solidification. The process is characterized by that products can be designed fiber winding rules according to the requirement of pressure to get the maximum tensile strength from fibers, easy to implement mechanization and automation, and quality is more stable, if with a different resin matrix and fiber organic compound, will receive the best technical and economic effects. Filament winding process can be successfully applied to the production of glass pipes, tanks, cylinders, fan blades, telegraph pole, badminton rakets, etc..
4.Compressing molding process and Modeling Simulation process
Conditions of technology and equipment for the two process are essentially similar. The former uses impregnated cloth as molding material , while the latter used sheet, cloddy or bulky molding material to put into metal molds at first and then compress into required FRP/GRP product under certain temperature and pressure.FRP/GRP products produced by the process has accuracy size, smooth surface, higher producing efficiency of once forming more stable quality, and being suitable for large batch production. Inadequacies of the process are that design and manufacture of molds is very complicated and difficult , higher initial investment, and restricted by the equipment is more prominent.
5.Pultrusion Process
Pultrusion process is to made fiberglass reinforced materials ,which impregnated resin , preform in mold at first under traction of device, and then solidify by heating to molding, and finally cut into the required length of FRP/GRP products.
